The Third Ashra of Ramadan: Days of Seeking Salvation

Ramadan is the holiest month in Islam,  divided into three ten-day segments, called Ashras; each with its own spiritual significance. It is the third and the final Ashra of Ramadan, which spans from the 21st to the 30th (or 29th).
The Third Ashra of Ramadan

Significance of the Third Ashra:

Known as the Ashra of Nijaat (Salvation), the third Ashra is the most crucial and sacred period. Here the Muslims seek freedom from Hellfire and hope for Allah’s ultimate mercy and forgiveness.

Worship during the Last Ashra of Ramadan Kareem:

The last ten days are the end of ramadan, where the Muslims are dedicated to intensified worship, deep reflection, and sincere repentance. It is during this period that they strive to earn Allah’s blessings and secure a place in Jannah (Paradise).

Dua for the Last 10 Days of Ramadan:

The supplication (dua) for the third Ashra is:

اللهم أجرني من النار

(Alahumma ajirni min al-naar)

"O Allah, save me from the fire (of Hell)."

Laylatul Qadr: The Night of Power

The significance of the last ten days of ramadan is heightened by the presence of Laylatul Qadr (the Night of Power), a night that is better than a thousand months. It is one of the greatest blessings of the third Ashra, which falls on one of the odd-numbered nights i.e. 21st, 23rd, 25th, 27th, or 29th. The exact night remains unknown, however; that encourages the believers to seek it through increased prayers and devotion.

The holy Quran states:

"The Night of Decree is better than a thousand months." (Quran 97:3)

Muslims engage in extra prayers, recite the holy Quran, and make heartfelt supplications during this night, as deeds performed on Laylatul Qadr carry rewards equivalent to those done over 83 years.

Ramadan Activities or Practices During the Third Ashra:

In order to make the most of this sacred period, Muslims engage in the following Ramadan Activities:
1. I'tikaf: I'tikaf is a Spiritual Seclusion. Many of the believers isolate themselves in mosques, dedicating their time to worship, Quran recitation, and reflection.
2. Tahajjud and Extra Prayers: Night prayers are increased during this time for seeking Allah’s mercy and blessings.
3. Charity and Good Deeds: The acts of kindness, charity, and helping other less fortunate are especially prioritized during this time Ramadan time.
4. Seeking Forgiveness: Repentance is also intensified during this period, as Muslims ask Allah for forgiveness for the past sins.

The End of Ramadan and Eid Preparations:

Muslim fasting month culminates in at the conclusion of the third Ashra. They prepare for Eid-ul-Fitr, which is a joyous celebration marking the end of Ramadan. Before Eid, Zakat-ul-Fitr, which is a mandatory charitable donation is given to the needy, in order to ensure that everyone can partake in the festivities.

Conclusion:

The third Ashra of Ramadan is a time of ultimate reflection, worship, and seeking salvation from fire. It is a golden opportunity for them to strengthen their relationship with Allah, purify their soul, and secure a blessed afterlife. By making the most of these final days of the holy month, the believers can leave Ramadan spiritually rejuvenated and closer to their Creator.

May Allah Almighty accept our prayers, grant us mercy, and save us from the torment of Hellfire. Aameen.
